Language & Culture

Explore the city and beyond in this action-packed culture program where you will improve your language skills and knowledge of American culture.

Courses
Language and Culture Enrichment
This content-based course will present students with the listening and speaking skills necessary for their afternoon field trips.  Students will read and watch videos about the places they will be visiting and learn conversation skills to use during the field experiences.  They will also write short descriptions and journal entries about the field trips.

Integrated English
This course is designed to improve the core English skills of Listening, Reading and Writing.  In this class, students will watch videos and read literature related to the arts and freedom of expression. They will also write an essay focused on the themes presented in class.

Business English & Culture Track

In addition to the listening, speaking, reading and writing classes, business students will spend two days a week developing professional presentations, refining pronunciation, enhancing written communication, practicing business etiquette, and more. Together, with participants in the Super-Intensive English Program, students will also visit local businesses, hear from business leaders and take part in activities including networking workshops and a business etiquette luncheon.

Business English
This course will focus on the language and culture of American businesses. Students will develop skills by reading case studies; listening to guest speakers in the business community; learning how to write concise business correspondence; and doing professional presentations. This class will also prepare students for their visits to local businesses as well as the afternoon guest speakers. A highlight of this course is the "business etiquette" lunch, which will bring students together with local business people over a formal business lunch where students will learn the etiquette of American business meals while engaging in conversation with local business people.
